Gro Alliance’s Cuba City, WI Location Goes Solar

Gro Alliance announces that it has commenced installation of a nearly $1 million solar panel array at its Cuba City, WI seed production facility and headquarters. The project spans the South-facing roofs of three warehouses and will generate almost 550 kW of electricity.

“This project furthers the sustainability commitments we’ve previously made while reducing our environmental footprint and future energy costs.” said Jim Schweigert, president of Gro Alliance. “It’s a win for us and the City of Cuba City as we will also be able to sell clean energy back to the grid to help power dozens of homes in town.”

Gro Alliance was founded in Bruce, WI in 1941 and has been headquartered in Cuba City since 1993. It acquired the former Jacques Seed corn production location and has since made ten major capital investments totaling more than $20 million. The location is now a multi-crop site as it produces and conditions seed corn, soybean seed, hybrid rye, distributes alfalfa seed, cleans sesame seed, treats and distributes corn and soybean plot seed, and grows and cleans organic seed corn and soybean seed. It also conducts seed nursery services in sweet corn, seed corn, and soybeans and the company works with nearly 120 seed companies, breeders, and universities.

“Gro Alliance has been an incredible partner with the City and surrounding community.” said George Morrissey, director of public works for Cuba City. “This latest investment that brings sustainable energy creation to town is truly appreciated and shows their long-term commitment to the area.”
