Breeder Direct Acquires Full Breeding Access to FBN’s Germplasm Pool

CUBA CITY, Wis. – Breeder Direct has acquired full breeding access to FBN’s pool of corn germplasm. This agreement allows Breeder Direct, a wholly owned subsidiary of Gro Alliance, to breed with FBN corn inbreds, out-license existing and future hybrids and create cross-house hybrids with other originators.

The FBN corn germplasm pool was originally developed by Pegasus Genetics prior to being acquired by FBN in 2019. FBN more than doubled the scope of the breeding program resulting in the identification of unique genetic combinations and excellent genetic rate of gain.

“Gaining the ability to make this large pool of germplasm available to the broader seed industry is a major win for Breeder Direct, seed companies and farmers.” Said Marc Neuman, director of sales and product development at Breeder Direct. “This adds considerable depth to Breeder Direct’s corn lineup and creates more genetic choices for seed companies.”

“The germplasm pool is novel, diverse and delivers elite hybrid performance.  The breeding pipeline is poised for further expansion in adaptation and strong improvements in agronomics.” said Dan Dyer, head of research and development at FBN. “Breeder Direct’s strong network of seed company relationships puts them in a great position to take the next step with these products.”

The breeding program transition has been seamless with the 2023-2024 counter-season cycle in Chile already underway.
